Safety
Safety
Our medical team ensures that each member has the most current information on our students through regular communication with our therapists and our field team. This communication provides an awareness of evolving treatment goals, familiarity of the challenges faced, information on psychological concerns, and especially knowledge of the physical condition and needs of each student.
This extensive approach allows the team to provide individualized and comprehensive care through an in-depth, weekly medical assessment that is held face-to-face. As the medical team works closely with the risk management and field leadership team, they are able to create policies and procedures to ensure safety and quality care.
Risk Management
Our number one priority at Aspiro, is keeping your child safe, period. Nothing is more important than this. Because outdoor education and adventure activities often have elements of inherent risk, ensuring these risks are mitigated is essential to all members of our team. Risks are managed by Aspiro’s team of highly qualified facilitators who complete multiple activity-specific trainings for each adventure.
Our teams receive numerous specific trainings on everything from safely driving vehicles to facilitating mountain biking, rock climbing and more. A highly structured training and check-off systems ensure that our staff have proven their ability to meet Aspiro’s high standards of risk management and facilitation.
Students are also provided with high-quality clothing and gear that meets safety standards and is ensured to keep them comfortable, dry, and safe in the outdoors. From the boots on their feet to the cording supplied for shelters, to the ropes and belay systems used on a climbing itinerary, all of our outdoor equipment is meticulously managed and tested against high safety standards.
Through consistent training, guidance, and support of staff, students are able to identify and confront the risky behaviors that were being demonstrated at home.
Outdoor Education Safety
Aspiro has many protocols and systems in place to continually maintain a safe environment for our students. We are training every week to become better at managing the risks inherent of a wilderness therapy program by helping our students understand the difference between perceived risk and actual risk. Decision-making skills, as well as a focus on planning and awareness, are taught and reinforced with students to help them develop mindfulness and good judgment. These skills can be directly translated back into home life after they leave Aspiro.
