Aspiro’s Approach to Risk Management
“It’s a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” JRR Tolkien
Outdoor Education Program Safety/Best Practices
At Aspiro, our number one priority is keeping your child safe, period. Nothing is more important than this. Our outdoor education program activities often will have elements of inherent risk which is why Aspiro’s professionals are highly trained at managing and mitigating risk. We work hard to provide your child with the appropriate challenge for his/her abilities while mitigating risk factors. The skills they develop help to greatly identify and confront their own risky behaviors through the constant guidance and support of their staff.
We move away from a heavy focus on protocol and move toward teaching our staff and students best practices and good judgment. We are training every week to become better at managing the risks inherent of a wilderness therapy program by helping our students understand the difference between perceived risk and actual risk. These skills can be directly translated into their lives after they leave Aspiro.
